The advent of smartphone technology has revolutionized the field of psychological and behavioral research, offering unprecedented insights into human mental states and behaviors. With their advanced sensors and processors, Smartphones are powerful tools for both passive and active data collection, enabling researchers and clinicians to capture data in real time and make accurate predictions of users' psychological states. This capability positions smartphones as personal mental health monitors, providing minimally intrusive assessments to users. In this presentation, I will highlight various ways in which smartphones can be used as tools for psychological assessment and for delivering behavior-change interventions. I will also highlight some of the insights gleaned about mental health from large-scale longitudinal studies with smartphones.
